This piece is an ode to my darling, a metaphorical representation of our relationship. Titled “Somewhere We Belong,” it delves into the surreal, weaving together elements that evoke passion, joy, and the continuation of life beyond death.
In this artwork, skeletons take center stage. Their bony forms symbolize the persistence of existence even after our mortal bodies decay. When we die, decomposition sets in, leaving behind only our bones—a stark reminder of impermanence. Yet, there’s something romantic about this skeletal imagery, a celebration of life’s resilience.
And then there are strawberries—those luscious red fruits with a rich history of symbolism. They represent passion, joy, and purity. Perhaps they mirror the intensity of our connection, the sweetness we find in each other’s company.
The backdrop remains abstract—a mysterious space where our protagonists exist. Their exact location eludes us, but they are bathed in an otherworldly illumination. This halo draws them closer together, blurring the boundaries between life and after-life.
The positioning of these two skeletons mirrors a photograph I once captured during a trip to a national park with my partner. At that moment, surrounded by nature’s grandeur, we felt like we belonged—to each other and to the universe.
